Overview:

This course covers the fundamental concepts of lateral earth pressures, design of retaining walls, and stability of earth slopes. The course includes evaluation of lateral earth pressures based on Rankine and Coulomb theories, lateral pressures induced by surface surcharge loads, design of retaining walls and sheet pile walls, stability of braced excavations, slope stability analysis of infinite slopes, and slope stability analysis of general finite slopes using wedge method and method of slices (Fellenius method and Bishop method).
